Beyond Case Diameter — Lug-to-Lug Width

Case diameter is only one dimension. The lug-to-lug measurement — the distance from the top lug to the bottom lug — determines how far the watch extends across your wrist. A 40mm watch with a 48mm lug-to-lug will wear larger than a 42mm watch with a 46mm lug-to-lug.

As a general rule, your lug-to-lug should not exceed your wrist width. For a 170mm wrist, your wrist width is approximately 47–48mm, so a watch with a 48mm+ lug-to-lug will overhang the wrist.

The case thickness also matters — a 12mm+ thick watch will look chunky under a shirt cuff, while a 9–10mm case disappears elegantly.
